Cyproheptadine is a prescription antihistamine medication for pets used for various disorders. It is commonly used to stimulate cats to eat and as an anti-itching or allergy medicine in dogs and cats. Cyproheptadine (Apilysin-G) is used in dogs and cats as an next best alternative to other antihistamines or as a drug to help stimulate the appetite. Above all, it is used to treat allergy symptoms such as swelling, itchiness, and signs of atopy in dogs.
Dosage of Cyproheptadine:
1. Dogs: 1.1mgs/kg of body weight by mouth every 4-6 hours for serotonin syndrome, and 0.3-2mgs/kg of body weight by mouth every 12 hours as an antihistamine.
2. Cats: 2 mgs/cat twice daily as an antihistamine, 1 to 4 mg/cat/1-2 times daily every 12-24 hours as an appetite stimulant, and 2-4mgs/cat every 4-6 hours for serotonin syndrome.
